This latest track is a collaboration between composer/song-writer N. R. Whitaker, electronic musician Andy Barber and photographer Alan Astley.
The original track was composed by N. R. Whitaker in 2001 and then remixed several years later by Andy Barber. Alan Astley’s cover photo captures the sense of aloneness and longing inherent in the lyrics and music.
The song is based on the experience of a woman known by the composer who, in the early 2000s, was struggling to reconcile her faith in God and her sexuality. Her husband had walked out on her some years ago and she confessed to feeling all alone whenever she dropped her son off at school in the mornings (‘he will leave her in the morning, left alone another day’). Through the love and support of her church community, she eventually gained the confidence to be true to herself and pursue a relationship with a woman. The song is essentially about being ‘kept’ in the love of God and about opening your heart to love.
